Scary stories can be fun to read, as long as the lights are on and there are people around you. Read them alone at night and every tiny beep and clink can make you want to run out screaming. It’s a book directed towards kids and I am guessing kids today are less scared than adults like me because this book was all sorts of scary but with an absolutely enthralling plot.
Lockwood & Co. is a ghost hunting agency who has its investigators use scientific methods to identify and hunt for ghosts in various establishments based upon requests. The investigators here are children. Seemingly there is an ongoing epidemic of ghost sightings and haunting and A.J Lockwood & Co. is an agency in London run by Anthony Lockwood along with George and Lucy to handle such matters. It seems odd to begin with that young adults are in charge of all this but it’ll grow on you.
The Screaming Staircase has its share of fun and frolic with the smart and enigmatic central characters who wade through the supernatural circus of London. They might be the smallest agency around the town but they sure have no lack of courage. Jonathan Stroud takes you on a ride through abandoned houses, spine chilling haunting, search for source* and scary screams. In all its ghostly glory, Screaming Staircase will leave you wanting to read the next installment.
